Wreck N’ Write

Dearest Captain Spazzmataz,

I thoroughly enjoyed your Halloween post.  Tanner as a wee little garden gnome is, quite possibly, one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen.  I just can’t get over the beard.  Do you remember trick or treating with Winter when she was a little and a bumblebee?  Going around with her then was a lot of fun, so I imagine you also had a lovely Halloween.

My Halloween was also pretty fun.  Booboo and I dressed as Wayne and Garth from Wayne’s World, respectively.  We passed out candy at the homebase until 8ish, when we went to Ebbet’s to see some of our friends play music.  We didn’t stay too long because Corbin and Lauren were coming to the house to watch creepy movies.  We ended up backing out of the creepy factor and watched the Adam’s Family and James and the Giant Peach.  We talked over the majority of both, but it was a lot of fun.  Corbin and Lauren are always such good hosts; they cook all this food and have fun things to do.  I wanted to also be a good host, so I went way overboard and bought way too much junk food to compensate for my lack of cooking skills.  Snacks for days.

NaNoWriMo is, in fact, the abbreviation for National Novel Writing Month.  You can look up the website at NaNoWriMo.org, but to explain, it’s titled as “a month of literary abandon.”  The goal is to write a 50,000 word book in just a month.  Which is crazy.  You have to write 1700 words a day just take make it in time for the very last day of November.  I figure even if I don’t make it, the experience will be good for me.  I always get caught up in editing and psych myself out when I’m writing.  This isn’t so much about quality as it is about quantity with editing later.  This would at least give me something to work with.  After just two days, I’m on page 13 of the book reboot.

I am also excited about my visit.  Did you look at the pins?  Don’t forget to ask pops about pillows, blankets, and all that good stuff.  You’ll have to make sure I write while I’m in town.  Is there anything important we need to do beside hang out with Nonna and nom some Cheeburger Cheeburger?

I started over on the running program this week.  It’s been really awesome, actually.  I’m only on week one, so of course, that’s the easiest week.  But I remember how I felt doing week one way back at the beginning of this year when we started running, and the progress makes me really happy.  Now that it’s cold, I’m feeling a weird ankle pain thing when I run, though.  I’ll have to figure that one out.  Maybe Whitney can help.

For the wreckage!

I actually wrecked outside of the house today.  After he got off work, I met Sparhawk at Steak N’ Shake for a nice dinner time.  I decided that would be the sight of my glorious destruction of paper.

This week’s post card recipient will be Sparhawk’s younger brother, Josh.  Josh works with cars and is a very stereotypical boy.  I figured he wouldn’t mind a little mess, so I’m sending him this sucker.

Since this post card is all about making a mess, I decided to immediately use it as coaster for my sweaty water glass.

As time went on, Sparhawk got really involved in making the mess, smearing a little bit of every part of our dinner on the card.  You can’t quite see the mess in the picture below, but you sure can smell it.

I’m thinking I’m going to write some sort of message across the table cloth before I send this off.  So it might not be 100% finished.

Following the food theme, I chose this page for wreckage:

I originally started out just listing everything I saw, but Sparhawk wanted to get fancy with the phrasing.  Eventually it evolved into this masterpiece:

It might not be my prettiest wreckage, but it was a lot of fun.  I see Sparhawk a lot, so it also gave us something new and interesting to do while dining together.

I really liked your tye-dye idea.  It worked so well!  As an update, I sent Sparhawk’s momma that chain card, if you remember.  Well I got an update on it this weekend!  The card went from Rolla to a place called Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and now it’s going all the way to England.  I’m hoping people continue to send me updates on its progress.  I find it really exciting.

That’s all for me!  I hope you have a wonderful week at school, and I’m excited to see you at the end of it!  I’ll leave you with some sweater puppy pictures.  Because adorable.  You’re welcome.
